Toys for Tots

Monday, December 14, 2009

Saturday, Sophia did her first ever Toys for Tots donation. Dan and I started a tradition of donating to this organization the first year we were married and have always wanted to continue it with our children. We decided a tradition of Build-a-Bear for Toys for Tots would be a great way to continue this, especially since they have a donation box right in their workshop. Obviously, Sophia didn't have a clue what she was really doing there, but we hope each year in the future she will spend some time thoughtfully making a toy for a child that otherwise might go without.

We were able to make a birth certificate for Sasha, the stuffed dog, and you could include the donating child's name and age. It was a little sad to leave the little puppy behind because I've never seen her so excited about a toy!

It was so fun! I am pretty sure next year it won't be so easy, as she'll be a toddler who won't understand making a toy and not leaving with it. I know she'll eventually catch on.

We spent the rest of the day walking around the Mall of America with Grandma DePuy. We finally ate at the Crepe Stand (my mom LOVES crepes and has a crepe day in her French class at school every year). I would highly recommend trying it out. They were very good!

Sophia and I went back to the mall yesterday, as well as a few other places. We pretty much finished all our Christmas shopping in two days. She is an amazing shopper - she either smiled or slept the whole time! I'm hoping she'll continue to have fun shopping with her mommy as she grows older.
